Why do you run?

18 Jan three sisters

Why do you run?

If you’re a runner, no doubt you have been asked that question countless times by friends, family members, co-workers, even by random strangers who stare at you incredulously as you run by during a snowstorm, while they grumble to themselves about shoveling off the sidewalk for people like you.

Why do you run?

We all have our reasons:
“It’s cheaper than therapy.”
“To lose weight.”
“To de-stress after a long day at work.”
“To feel like myself again.”
“For fun.”
“For punishment.”

How about all of the above?

Hell, we just love it.

We three sisters, Brandi, Amanda & Lara, began running at the ripe ol’ age of…well, middle school. Between the three of us, our poor parents had to sit through enough track meets and cross-country races to make even the most devoted runner cringe at a sore case of bleacher-butt. But running was always a part of who we were, for some reason. Our parents weren’t runners; we didn’t have any other family members who were runners; most of our friends probably thought we were a little weird for being runners. Even some of our track team members thought we were weird for running in the off-season!

So why do we run?
Still?

Every day, we have a different reason for running. Most of the time our reasons don’t all line up. All we know is, at the end of the day, we can send each other a message: “I ran X miles today.”

Which is responded with a…
“Hell yeah! Awesome!”
“Good job!”
“Well I ran X+1 miles. ;)

And we don’t have to talk about anything else. We don’t have to talk about guys, work, family, whatever else in our lives may be hanging over our heads. We can have our thing, share it with each other, and life is good and makes sense and seems complete, for that moment anyway.

Then we get up and do it all over again the next day. Why do we run?

Why do you run?

We hope you follow along our new blog as we write about the many miles we cover, distances apart or together; as well as about other things that may be running our lives at the moment—food, family, workout gear, non-running workouts—you name it.

We promise, it will be fun.

And maybe at some point, you might just figure it out—why you run, that is.
